Milgaard Inquiry

Caldwell's reputation

Former prosecutor, Bobs Caldwell, claims that his reputation has been severely damaged by accusations that he was involved in a cover up in the Milgaard case. He says that people that he's known for years have stopped speaking to him and Caldwell maintains that he was never involved in any wrongdoing in the original trial.

Hard to know how to interpret that. On one hand, Caldwell firmly believed in David's guilt, therefore, it's hard to fault him for contacting the Parole Board or aggressively prosecuting his case. OTOH, Caldwell was aware of the Fisher rapes and somehow never put one in one together, or so he says.

    Hi Sigrid

There are some comments about Saskatoon, the StarPhoenix and David Milgaard on the W5 forum. Click on: Curtis Malinowski - Truth and Facts and go to the last page.

As I found out in Vancouver, the Milgaard Inquiry is not news in Vancouver. Looks like its not news in Toronto.

There is something wrong with the media in this country.

    James,

Thanks for the link to the W5 forum. Interesting. That discussion certainly confirms what I know firsthand by living in Ottawa -- Ontario is not concerned with the Milgaard case.

I have to subscribe to Google alerts in order to get any information on the inquiry. That's why I'm late sometimes with my posts, especially if Joyce saves up all of her news articles and doesn't send them to me until the end of the week, which is her tendency.

Even when I was the head of the Milgaard Support Group back in 1992-1993, I could never get the Ottawa Citizen to attend even ONE of our meetings. I even contacted Dave Brown, a reporter who was known for sticking up for the "little guy," and I told him that the media was ignoring my Milgaard group. He ignored my voicemail.

I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing was happening out in BC. Milgaard has become a regional issue now unless he comes in to visit the AIDWYC people in Toronto. How sad that the public doesn't realize that anyone of us could become a Milgaard -- Kafka lives!

    Dear Sigrid,
If David Milgaard does any speaking out the media will cover it! Given that senario, media have not been covering one of the most important inquiries of The Wrongfully Convicted! What does that say about the media intention to seek the truth? Take care Holly

Yo, Holly. How are you doing? Yeah, you'd think that the media would cover David's talks but I really find very little about him in the paper here in Ontario.

However, I must confess that I do not read the daily rag in town any more than two or three times a week. I am an Internet junkie, so I get my news from Yahoo, Associated Press, CBC, and the Star Phoenix. Or I get it on TV from CNN (totally not interested in David!) and CTV. Thus, it is entirely possible that I could be missing Milgaard stuff in the Ottawa papers, which I personally don't consider worth reading (hope that none of my friends at the Citizen are reading this!)
